Basin Recreation Hires New Director
The Summit County Council and the Administrative Control Board of the Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District (“Basin Recreation” or the “District”) are pleased to announce the appointment of Dana Jones as Basin Recreation’s new District Director. Dana joins the District after a 28-year career with California State Parks.
After graduating from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Outdoor Recreation Administration, Dana’s career began as a Park Ranger and progressed to a Sector and District Superintendent in a variety of locations throughout California. Her time with California State Parks cumulated as the Northern Division Chief of Operations responsible for nearly 200 parks in the northern half of California. Following an early retirement, Dana traveled extensively until returning back to work as a consultant for a Parks and Recreation District.
Jones explained, “there is a pattern that has been consistent throughout my life and work; I start at the beginning, immerse myself in learning, and strive to become the best at what I am doing. It is with great pleasure to accept the position of District Director for Basin Recreation and I look forward to starting a new chapter in the beautiful State of Utah.”
In her spare time, Dana enjoys a variety of outdoor activities (swimming, hiking, paddling, and biking), photography, and traveling. She calls raising her son as a single parent her greatest accomplishment to date. Last year, together they walked the Português Caminho, three hundred miles across the length of Portugal and into Spain, a wonderful mother son bonding experience.
Ben Castro, Chair of the Administrative Control Board, led a nationwide search for a new District Director. “The Board was thrilled with the breadth and caliber of candidates that applied for the position. Dana rose to the top due to her varied experience in parks, open space, and trails. She will be surrounded by an excellent team and we are all excited to see what she will bring to Basin Recreation.” Dana will officially join Basin Recreation on December 14.
