Sustainable Practices
Environmental
Energy Efficient
- The Fieldhouse was retrofitted with a 266-panel solar array in 2017 which supplies 25-30% of The Fieldhouseโs power from a renewable energy source.
- The 8,000-square foot Trailside Greenhouse is equipped with one solar panel that maintains optimal growing conditions for over 500 native plants.
- Basin Recreation purchased renewable energy certificates (RECs) through Elektron Solarโs solar farm, resulting in the offset of Basin Recreationโs total energy usage to almost 100% in renewable energy.
- In the winter, your favorite Nordic skiing trail at RTS, Basin 5k, is illuminated by solar powered, wildlife-friendly lighting!
Waste Reduction
- Basin Recreationโs outdated equipment is auctioned and old gear and supplies are donated to other communities rather than being brought to a landfill.
- Basin Recreation provides landfill and recycle bins in The Fieldhouse, offices, and parks. To promote the reduction of plastic use while recreating, water fountains and bottle refill stations have been installed across Basin Recreationโs facilities and parks.
Building Green
- The Fieldhouse is a LEED-certified green building, meaning The Fieldhouse is a healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving building, offering environmental, social, and governance benefits.
Social
- Basin Recreation is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, equitable community where everyone has equal access to recreational opportunities, regardless of background or ability.
Economic
- Through careful planning and strategic investment, we ensure that our facilities, trails, and parks remain financially sustainable, serving the communityโs evolving needs while minimizing financial risk.
- We prioritize cost-effective solutions in maintaining and upgrading our facilities, incorporating sustainable technologies that reduce operational costs over time.
